About Krasman Centre: Krasman Centre is a Consumer/Survivor Initiative (CSI), which means we are governed, led, and operated by people with lived experience of mental health and/or addictions and/or housing/homelessness/poverty challenges, and by family members/caregivers. All of our programs and services are peer support-based. Although we don’t ask for disclosure of details in a cover letter that may make a person feel uncomfortable, it is important to identify direct lived experience that aligns with the specific role requirements.
The pillar of peer support is having common lived experiences, which nurtures a unique kind of understanding and connection. Peer support is a relationship where individuals with shared experiences, such as mental health and/ or substance use challenges, provide mutual support to one another. Peer Support is voluntary, and a trained peer supporter will walk alongside an individual through various stages of their unique recovery journey. Lived experience under this umbrella term is when the applicant has a similar lived/living experience to the specific posting.
Family peer support is also a key form of peer support throughout the healthcare system. In family peer support, people connect based on the shared experience of caring about someone who is experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge. Although it is often called Family Peer Support, it encompasses the personal experience of supporting a loved one on their own journey, whether that loved one is a family member or a friend.
