May 5th marks the National Day of Awareness and Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Gender Diverse People (MMIWG2S+) also known as Red Dress Day in Canada.
The red dress is a visual reminder of the missing and murdered Indigenous women in Canada, a movement inspired by artist Jaime Black of The ReDress Project.
On this day, Krasman Centre joins our Indigenous brothers and sisters in honouring and remembering the missing and murdered lives lost to colonial, gender-based violence, their families, and communities who grieve.
How can non-Indigenous people stand in solidarity?
– Wear red
– Hang a red dress outside (front door, tree) or by a window
– Educate someone about Red Dress Day
– Support and follow Indigenous businesses & mutual aids on social media
– Show up to a local event in your community on May 5th for Red Dress Day
