May 5th – Red Dress Day for MMIWG2S+

Friday, May 5, 2023, is Red Dress Day, an annual National Awareness Day for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit People.

Red Dress Day grew out of the installation project REDress by Métis artist Jaime Black. Find out more in this artist talk with Jaime Black:

Some ways to commemorate MMIWG2S+ on May 5th:

  • Display a red dress or shirt outside your home, workplace, or other prominent location
  • Wear red
  • Support community events or workshops, such as the gathering and vigil presented by the Indigenous Action Committee at the Sharon Temple
