Inaadiziwin refers to a “Way of Life.” Rooted in community care and connection, this initiative provides culturally relevant peer support and resources to residents of Georgina Island First Nation. Led by trained Peer Supporters who are members of the Chippewas of Georgina Island, this work is grounded in lived experience and a deep understanding of the social, economic, and health challenges faced by the community. By centering Indigenous knowledge, mutual aid, and collective healing, this peer-driven approach strengthens community resilience and well-being.

Supports York Region residents with mental health or substance use challenges in applying for the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) and other benefits such as Canada Pension Plan Disability (CPPD), Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Old Age Security (OAS), and Employment Insurance (EI). An Application Support Worker assists with documentation, medical appointments, and system navigation.

In partnership with BlueDoor, a Peer Supporter is embedded within transitional housing in north Durham to support residents’ recovery and housing stability. 

A monthly forum for people with lived or living experience and practitioners to share learning, strengthen peer support practices, and foster mutual support.

Drop-In Centres 

Drop-in centres are supportive spaces where people can connect, relax, and access the peer recovery movement without demands or pathologizing. Current offerings include peer support, system navigation, warm transfers, referrals, peer-based activities, harm reduction resources and supplies, wellness items (limited), personal care facilities*, clothing, food, light refreshments, and access to computers/phones. Funded by Ontario Health and the Regional Municipality of York.

Peer Supporters support individuals who are unhoused, to connect to the broader Housing Services System, in York Region. 1:1 Peer Support is provided by individuals with lived experience of being unhoused.  This program operates from the Krasman Centre’s Richmond Hill Drop-in site. Funded by United Way Greater Toronto (Reaching Home).  

Provides support for families of psychiatric survivors, grounded in the belief that people can recover and families play a vital supportive role. Services include one-on-one virtual family peer support via phone or email, recovery education, system navigation, and weekly virtual drop-in groups on Tuesdays from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. via Zoom. Funded by Ontario Health. 

H2H is a Housing First Program that supports people that have experienced chronic or episodic homelessness to find and maintain housing while offering ongoing wraparound supports. This program is delivered in partnership with BlueDoor and LOFT Housing and Community Services Funding flowed from BlueDoor.

These services provide non-crisis and crisis support from a recovery-informed perspective rooted in lived experience in the York Region, South Simcoe and North York areas (the Central LHIN). They embody the values of peer support and emphasize strength-based, recovery-oriented, and Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Anti-Racism (EDIAR) principles.

The Warm Line & Peer Crisis Support Service volunteers receive ongoing training to ensure their skill sets meet the needs of callers, enabling them to provide strong support—regardless of the topics being discussed. Volunteering offers a meaningful opportunity for individuals to utilize their lived experience in a way that directly impacts others while also contributing to their recovery. 

When a caller contacts the toll-free number, the call is re-routed to the volunteer on the line. Both phone and chat services are anonymous, ensuring confidentiality for all participants. You will not be asked to provide personal information to use this service. All conversations are strictly confidential and anonymous.

It is a comprehensive training and mentorship in the field of Peer Support, including paid internship positions for 15 participants annually.  Participants must apply and meet eligibility requirements. This program aligns with the “Guidelines for the Training and Practice of Peer Support (Mental Health Commission of Canada)”. Funded by United Way Greater Toronto.

An evidence-based, strength-focused program helping individuals identify and use their personal and environmental strengths via WRAP workshops to overcome difficulties and achieve their goals. 

Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) Program 
A self-developed, evidence-based plan to support overall wellness, personal growth, and recovery. WRAP helps individuals address life challenges, build self-esteem and confidence, strengthen support systems, improve relationships, and enhance overall health.

Peer supporters assist people with mental health and addictions challenges seeking care in the Emergency Departments of Southlake Regional Health Centre and North York General Hospital by drawing on their own lived experiences in offering support, and by connecting individuals with other community-based supports.  Funded by Ontario Health and North York General Hospital.  

Krasman Centre Peer Supporter working alongside the interdisciplinary team at the North York General Hospital (NGYN) RAAM clinic, offering 1:1 Peer Support for those seeking support regarding their substance use, in the RAAM clinic as well as other departments within NYGH. 

Drawing from lived experience of addiction challenges, Krasman Centre Peer Supporter works in the Substance Use Service, including the RAAM clinic, to assist individuals seeking care at Women’s College Hospital.  The goal of the Peer Supporter role is broadly to enhance engagement in care for substance use and/or mental health challenges, improve the quality of the program participant’s experience with the Substance Use Service/team at WCH and with system navigation, and to build and enhance relationships with community resources. Funded by Women’s College Hospital.  

In partnership with Your Support Services Network, Krasman Centre offers Peer Support to individuals accessing the Safe Beds programs (crisis/short term, respite beds with wraparound supports). Funding flowed from Your Support Services Network. 

We offer a variety of online peer support groups. Our virtual peer support community is a safe and non-judgmental space for individuals to share stories relating to mental health and addiction challenges. Here, we strive to maintain a welcoming virtual environment where you will find support and understanding from others who share similar experiences. Short-term peer support for individuals transitioning from hospital treatment to community life. Provides customized welcome baskets, referrals, and one-on-one peer support. Funded by Ontario Health.

Mobile-outreach peer support (one-on-one), presentations to various community groups, peer-based support groups, recovery education groups, social/recreational activities, arts and crafts groups, group outings, and peer-support drop-in centres (Richmond Hill, Newmarket and Alliston). Krasman Centre has Peer Supporters embedded at the York Region Detox Centre (Caritas) and at VitaNova. Funded by Addiction Services Central Ontario. 

Mobile peer supporters meet individuals in the community at their point of need and where they are. Mobility allows for overcoming barriers that would limit access. 1:1 Peer support is provided in-person, in community settings, or virtually, if preferred.  Funded by the Regional Municipality of York.
